Currently running approx 1500 breeders, and progeny, our commercial herd is comprised of Hereford, Santa Getrudis and Angus bloodlines. We also breed a small herd of Hereford stud animals to breed our own bulls.

It's growing rarer in the beef industry, but we still muster all our cattle with stock horses. Our location in the Dawson Valley means we also need to protect our cattle from ticks and buffalo fly, which means a six weekly mustering and dipping roster through the warmer months of the year.

Markets

After our weaners have spent some time enjoying a lush oats crop, they are sold into the feeder market. A small percentage of our cattle remain on pasture to be sold as prime cattle. Occasionally, our Herefords drop more good bulls than we can use, so every once in a while we sell a bull for breeding too.

Finley promised Caitlyn in his wedding speech to always love her more than he loved his cows. Anyone who knows the Hewitt family will know that this is a BIG promise!
